Self employment - enter total expenses in Box 31

Self-employment. Tax return states - Total expenses - If your annual turnover was below £85,000, you may just put your total expenses in box 31.

This is not possible on the software. If I put the figure in 'Other Business Expenses', this might well be queried by HMRC.

Please update to allow direct entry to Box 31.

Please also note that the additional Description Box is not carried forward to the Return, so I can't bring this to HMRC this way either.

There is a validation on box 31 that it must equal the sum of the boxes 'above' so an entry in box 30 'Other Business Expenses' is required.

In the Expenses box on Self employment, when you select 'Expense type' you can also enter a further 'Description'.

There is no field on the SA103F for this 'Description' and nor does it appear on the Report PDF, however this report is not automatically be sent to HMRC.

If you wish to explain to HMRC that you have included the total business expenses in box 30 to enable filing - you can use the 'Additional information 'pen' icon to in Self -employment - Income and Expenses - Income, and provide HMRC with a note of your choice. this will appear on in box 103 on page SEF 6 of the SA103 pdf.
