The screens here are relatively new, and the new design came out of a range of feedback and analytically data showing us that users were (also) getting lost and/or confided with the previous layout.
I want to give it a few months, and I can then review feedback (such as this) and the see what the data shows us on user navigation, errors and mistakes.
One thing we are delivering later this year is a home for compliance apps defaults and settings, I do see a future where a user who never imports may be able to set this screen so it always defaults to 'data entry'.
If yu click "Enter a Trial balance" it leads to an Import screen, not a data entry screen. It should say "Imort a trial balance". You would then be forced to go to the data entry options to manually key the entries manually.

Can we check what screens it is that you are referring to please?
The below is the recently updated screen, where the default is to enter the trial balance, and it then also defaults to 'upload' with enter manually being in the right drop down.
The headed import has now also changed, where we will allow any spreadsheet to be imported and a user can select what the headings are on the wizard.
